Among others, we find four main ways to identify a good bud:
Observing the trichomes: Make sure you have a good light source when observing the trichomes. The light will allow you to see color changes and their ripeness.
No insect pest remains observed: Common examples include damaged or chewed-up tissue, dead insect remains, cobwebs, insect droppings, and eggs or larvae.
We can't find any fungus: Finding the fungus early can even prevent health problems. Visually, fungus can manifest itself in different ways. The most common are white or gray mold, dark or black spots, and cottony appearance.
Defined flavor and aroma: Quality bud has a strong, defined aroma, with terpene profiles that vary between fruits, spices, earth, diesel, and more. Strange odors such as mold or moisture indicate poor curing. A good aroma should persist even after handling. The flavor of a good bud should be clear and easy to identify, reflecting its terpene profile. It should be smooth, without metallic or bitter flavors, and leave a clean and pleasant aftertaste.
